What was the bubbling frog device in Wyatt's room giving off steam?

Was it some kind of humidifier? What purpose does it serve? Is it for allergies or something? I've never seen one before. I watched this on my tablet with earplugs, so I could hear every little annoying sound, and that bubbling frog was the worst. Actually, the constant low rumbling sound of a distant car engine on idle or an industrial generator that they use for background noise in all these films is the worst, but yeah, what exactly was that device?

I think it was a vaporizer.

Was there a humidifier in any other of the PAs? I vaguely remember seeing one.

I don't recall, but it was clearly used as background noise to unnerve (annoy?) the viewer, like they did with the constant, distant hum of an engine/generator. Since they're 'found footage' films, I suppose they have to rely on other audio techniques to hold our attention instead of a soundtrack.
