Should have ended it at the first one..
I'll admit, the first movie freaked me out. It was probably the best "found footage" horror movie since The Blair Witch Project. It had a believable story line, it was scary. In the original ending, Katie cuts her own throat in front of the camera, and the movie ends. But it's like someone decided that instead of leaving it at that, with the perfectly good plot of two people living in a demon-possessed house, that they would drag it out with some half-baked idea of a strange Satanic cult being involved, that they never care to explain any further in any of these pointless sequels, add a lot of the same predictable "jump" scenes, for the sole purpose of making more money.
The story line really feels like they're just making it up as they go along, without adding anything to it that hasn't already been done in the first 3 movies. Also, the security camera thing is getting old and less realistic. In the first two movies, they filled the plot hole as to why everything is captured on film pretty well, but the 3rd one that is supposed to take place in the 80's...do you know how much video camera's cost back then? And how tedious it would have been to sift through hours of footage on film, rather than digital?
This movie had great potential to become a classic, like Blair Witch if they would have left it as is, or came up with a plot a little more interesting for the sequels.
