So who was Robbie **Here there be spoilers**

So at first I was sure Robbie was Hunter, but then it turned out to be Wyatt. So who was Robbie, just some random little kid? Why would Hunter/Wyatt have been given up for adoption but Katie kept this kid?

reply

Robbie's origins were never revealed. I tend to think that he was, in fact, a kid possessed BY Toby.

But regardless, he was brought into the family to introduce Wyatt/Hunter to Toby in a non-threatening way.

Why Wyatt/Hunter was given up has not been revealed either, but I truly believe that possessed Katie gave him up to avoid police detection.
The police were looking for a young woman with male child. It would have been much easier to give him up & then get him back later.

Lastly, according to the ritual component introduced in Part 4, a virgin was needed as part of the ritual.

Robbie wasn't possessed by Toby. He was seen talking to Toby.

*spoilers for PA 3 below*

True, I agree he was seen talking to Toby.

But the film has shown several examples of Toby 'being in more than one place' at one time.
The end of Part 3 when Dennis is killed shows Toby killing Dennis at the same time we see a possessed Katie against the stairs in the background.
Plus, at the end of Part 4 we see a whole 'tribe' of possessed witches/worshippers walk slowly toward the door to get Alex.

But they didn't need to give Hunter up for adoption. They could have just waited till he was older.

[Robbie] was brought into the family to introduce Wyatt/Hunter to Toby in a non-threatening way.
I can’t really buy that explanation because none of the other children have seen Toby as threatening; they always see him as a “friend”. By PA4, we had already seen young Katie and Kristi being okay with Toby, likewise with Leila later in Ghost Dimension, so it doesn’t seem like Robbie was really necessary to ease Wyatt into the idea of Toby. Unless (for some reason) he only appears threatening to boys, then Robbie’s purpose as demonic-lubrication doesn’t hold water.

Katie in PA 3 would disagree with this.

I think no one knows who Robbie is. A boy with Katie, you would think he would be Hunter, but if Wyatt was Hunter, then you don't need Robbie. It makes no sense. Has anyone come up with a good answer yet?

Robbie was a means for Katie and the coven to get involved with Wyatt and his family.

I figured he was probably a random kid that was kidnapped so he could be used to get closer to Hunter/Wyatt. Perhaps his parents or another relative made the same deal for wealth and so the coven was allowed to take him. And actually, there seemed to be many women in the coven of many different ages so perhaps he belonged to one of them. Or, maybe he was Toby in human form.

I'm just not sure how the adoption worked out either. After Part 2 did Katie take the baby and just leave him somewhere? If so, why? I don't see the purpose of it. If it weren't for so many unanswered questions this would be a very good movie.
