He FORGAVE all those b----ards? (spoiler)

Just watched the movie, really liked it. I did feel he was an overly-passive sort of a character at least in the beginning (a sentiment evidently shared here).

What also bugged me a bit was how in the one-year later scene at the end, lots of the guys who were once his friends but deserted him at the first sign of trouble all said hello and were all nice and polite then. If I was Lucas I'd have been like 'yeah whatever'. I might've managed a forced smile at the very most, but I'd sure be letting them know wordlessly that their betrayal would never be forgotten.

It was a small town, and I realize him wanting to get along with everyone as good as possible after being alone for so long was important, but some lines can't be crossed y'know? 

Totally agree. Loved the film, but seriously, I don't think things could ever be the 'same' with everyone after that.

I mean, all those people treated him like utter s**t and as if he were a leper. You'd always look at them as two-faced after that, and they him.

I think a more realistic ending would be that in the end he would have to move to another town somewhere and start anew.

I think the ending pretty much implied this. He realises he will never be able to trust anyone again....even a year later things haven't really returned to normal and will never be the same again.

I had the exact same thought!
