Sue. Everybody (SPOILERS!)

I find it unrealistic for Lucas to stay in that village after all that happened. And hug the cretin (Johan?) who beat the heck out of his kid, Marcus. Or carry Klara in his arms again (WTF, are you kidding me? I wouldn't have gone anywhere near that creature again, much less without ...recording everything or have 10 witnesses present). Or face that butcher in the grocery store again. They kill your dog, beat your kid, take your job away, beat you up and one year later you share laughs and kisses with everybody at parties? No, dude, just...no. You sell your house, lawyer up and sue the heck out of the entire village starting with that cow, Grethe, and then Johan, the butcher, Klara's folks. Everybody! (almost quoting Gary Oldman in "The Professional"). You create a precedent. You make so much *beep* noise that they'll name your trial in law books.

I vaguely remember a newspaper article with the case of a man who didn't get involved enough in rescuing a child from some accident he was just witnessing because he was afraid of the possibility of later being accused of child molestation. If I remember right, he called 911, but that was about it. He later was sued for not doing more, but he managed to avoid any prosecution. It's a sad state of affairs. But...everything has consequences. Including how society judges individuals.

Absolutely. And how about some justice for the faithful doggie.

You gotta remember this isn't America.

I'm guessing in small towns in Sweden they don't really just sue everybody for everything because it's not a society built on as much distrust as you see in other western countries.

This was set in Denmark as was the real life case this was based on. And yes here in europe people are neither as sue happy nor is it this easy to sue everyone.

reply

You've just described why Denmark is one of the happy places to live and the USA isn't. However, if you've watched the movie you'd have noticed the bullet fired at Lucas, indicating that a stigma can never be washed off completely.

This is whats called "honor culture" (as opposed to police culture that we have now and some idiots think we should remove) where you are supposed to kill/maim/show superiority to anyone who is percieved as a threat otherwise you loose face and will be killed/mamed/fucked over yourself. Honor culture was very prevalent in scandinavia countries before the 19th century when police culture started taking over.

Those happy scenes at the end were so unrealistic they almost ruined the movie for me. He was assaulted at the supermarket. That's a clear cut case.
