When Al fired her the first time he told her to go back to Australia.Also,there were references to Sydney and New South Wales.Was Robin a police officer in Australia?If so,how was she able to walk into a police operation in New Zealand which is a separate country?
She was NZ-born but living/working in Australia previous to the show.
I assumed she was originally a cop in NZ too.

I believe that she was an Australian police officer who had specialized in sexual abuse cases as well as cases involving children. She was in New Zealand to see her mother who was ill. When the local New Zealand police station found out that someone who specialized in the crime they were dealing with was in town, they asked for her to be hired to help them with their case.
