European Directors are only one's making action films with substance

Some critic enjoyed this film for it moody atmosphere others were let down by it not meeting game changing aspirations. They should both agree that European Directors since Taken continue to build a monopoly on substantive action movies. Hollywood clearly does not know how to make a good action movie anymore.

Even though Film District screwed this movie by not giving it early screenings to critics to helps its low key online marketing campaign. Hopefully word of mouth will allow it to be rediscovered on DVD and Bluray.

Taken and substance don't belong in the same sentence, unless you saying it has none. Taken is a by the numbers late 80s early 90s action movie. Very entertaining(Unrated), but not substantive. Okay, Looper is an example of a hollywood action movie with intelligence.

While your standard america action film is by the numbers formula. Yes Looped was great as an action film but its a genre film with pieces of sci-fi and noir. American Studios don't realize that lack of quality and not allowing room for fresh creativity has driven the American box office audience away. Making them heavily dependent on the foreign box office.

You can't move the goal post like that, for that would mean Terminator 2, Aliens, Matrix, Total Recall, Robocop, Mad Max, Flash Gordon, Demolition Man, Escape from New York, etc. Don't count as great action films because they are genre.

we need more American studios to take chances on the action genre. for the most part its used for b-movies and straight to dvd flicks now.
