Her face wasn't even bad !

I thought the movie was kind of ridiculous trying to make it seem like naomi rapace was in someway, shape or form ugly. She still looked beautiful....I bet people who've been in car accidents and suffered face injuries wish they looked as good as that !

She still looked so beautiful....those kids pissed me off! Children can really be evil sons of bitches tbh

reply

Either way was she really a monster? They made it seem like she was Quasimodo.

I still think that Beatrice was beautiful even with the facial construction. I do feel bad that she was tormented for it. Wish that there would have been a scene in which she got her revenge against the cruel kids.

Yeah, you have to work lots harder to make Noomi Rapace look unattractive.

reply

i assumed it was largely psychological. she said she had a series of reconstructive surgeries and probably mentally still sees herself how she was after the accident but before the surgeries.

But it wasn't largely psychological. Random kids threw things at her and called her monster! That was LAUGHABLE. You could barely even see the scars.

And besides, even with the small scars she did have, she looked hot.

This was the single most ridiculous thing about this movie.

reply

Yes, they could have done without the kids. Just the hit it took on her career and her self-esteem would have been enough. Or, she could have had a fiance who couldn't take all she was going through and broke off with her, causing her to blame the scars on that situation as well.

reply

I agree the part with the kids made no sense it was not bad at all....if that's a monster I hope to be one, too! The self esteem in regards to her career made more sense and people staring or questioning her about the scars.

reply

Yeah that's what failed. If she had been the only person hung up on that, it wouldn't bother me. I mean, you could interpret it as how she feels about herself, selfloathing, etc. Without the kids, it would be fine.

But kids treating Noomi Rapace like Quasimodo cuz she has a couple scars? Bull!

reply

Yeah, I have to agree with everyone here, that was another downfall of the movie for me. They even wrote "monster" on her door. Realistically, you'd have to be pretty close to her to notice the scars, and I don't think children, even being as cruel and uncouth as they are, would go so far as throwing rocks and graffiti.

You don't know many children then.

I see you've all been living in good neighbourhoods. In some areas kids don't need excuses to terrorize residents, and sometimes they'll make up rumours to spread the hate on to other kids who'll then gang up and come looking for 'fun.'

reply

her outlook about how she looks was largely psychological at the time the movie happened. like she said, she had multiple cosmetic surgeries to repair her face. i just figured those kids started taunting her before she had the surgeries and since she was an easy victim they just kept it up.

maybe i'm making up too much back story where none exists, but it doesn't seem like too much of a quantum leap in logic to assume that might be how events transpired.

My friends and I were discussing this after seeing this a couple of days ago. I even mentioned how even with the scars on her face, she was still pretty. My friend even thought that she might have looked worse before the surgery. It makes sense, but I thought that those kids were just cruel.

Beatrice did say that they had to rebuild her face.

Remember Beatrice crying when the doctors remove her bandages and agree her face wasn't that bad it has do with Beatrice self esteem and agree the little brats were hoodlums to her and she was easy target for them to pick on her

Going by the way I was bullied all through school, I'd say this is very likely. Once you're a target, nothing you change about yourself will get rid of the stigma.

reply

I agree as logically that sounds like the most feasible explanation...Despite everything I was still mesmerized by her beauty throughout the movie!

reply

^lol well she is noomi rapace.

reply

I agree and I think it's kind of an insult to people that have been seriously disfigured from car accidents, in real life.

Noomi could have her face ripped off and she'd still be beautiful!

reply

I thought those kids picking on her were so unbelievable. As if they'd target a grown woman like that, especially when her injuries were so inconspicuous from a distance. Even if they weren't I bet kids would be more freaked out than anything.

She's a woman, every woman wants to look perfect and have no complexes.

It was hardly an acid attack, it was a few scars that could be covered in make-up and would fade eventually, this was my problem with movie. If the film makers wanted to show how the car accident motivated her to get revenge than they should have made it more dramatic.

I also didn't get how those kids (even adults too???) reacted to her face...'monster' 'monster'....you would think it was the elephant man himself. It seemed over the top and unrealistic.
