Wait, this is a WWE production? Seriously?!

With the cast and director involved in this project, I thought we were looking at an artsy neo-noir, like fellow FilmDistrict releases "Drive" and "Looper." The fact that Vince McMahon is involved severely dampens my enthusiasm, as everything that WWE Films has put out so far has been a bargain-basement piece of crap.

To be fair that last movie they made "The Day" was indeed pretty awful BUT it was a movie that at least tried to be good. It wasn't like some cheesy stone cold austin movie or some *beep* it had mature themes and what not.

There is another film coming out with Halle Berry that is also a WWE films movie, had no idea till like a day ago,the trailer looks good

Shes got no arms or legs and thats ok with me!!

WWE Films gets involved and Vince gets executive producer credit anytime one of their 'Independent Contractor Employees' gets a credited role in the movie.
It is written into any contract using someone already under contract to another entertainment entity. basically it is the old Hollywood Poaching clause studios used to employ in the exclusive agreements contracts.
This helps both parties as WWE fans are more likely to go watch a film that has a WWE personality (wrestler) in it, and the WWE gets advertising and an inroad to another segment of a fanbase.

We studied the WWE and WCW employment agreements as part of our Contract Law classes in Law school.

Hmmm... I would feel better not knowing that but it still looks like it'll be in the same vein/quality of the films you mentioned. I still have high expectations.

I felt exactly the same as you, OP. At least, until I saw it last night. It blew me away. 3 months into the year & this is the first great movie I've seen. Can't recommend it enough. It's an action/revenge flick that actually takes the time to focus on it's characters & this director is an artist when it comes to building tension. I'm actually going to see it again tonight.

Did you see The Day? It's pretty good and by WWE Studios. I think they're getting away from making movies like The Marine, but yeah they should ditch the WWE Studios moniker if they want to be taken seriously by most people.

Agreed. Maybe a "McMahon Productions/Films" moniker instead? If they're going to do non-wrestling related movies, I think that would be the way to go. Seeing "WWE" in front of this movie threw me off.

When I went to see DMD, a couple behind me giggled when the WWE logo appeared on screen during the opening credits and the guy said "oh boy they're involved? this is going to suck." so yeah they do have a image problem with quality. Fortunately, the movie was OK though.

Well you can tell it has a chance of being decent since there are no wrestlers cast in lead rolls. Actually I don't think any wrestlers are cast in this, so it could be awesome.

There is a wrestler cast as a henchman. It's a suitable role for him.

Wade Barret's the wrestler in this movie, btw.
