Couldn't make out what Vic said to Darcy *spoiler*

What does Victor say to Darcy when he asks Victor if he didn't kill him because he has a wife and kid? It was not intelligible to me.

reply

No, because they have you.

I still think he said "No, because I've got you" referencing their friendship.

The exact line is.

No, I didn't kill you because they've got you"

"Did you choose not to kill me cuz I got a wife and a kid?"
"No. I didn't kill you because they've got you."

... as Stealthshadow said.

So please explain this line to me because it made absolutely no sense at all. The movie tells us that Victor and Darcy were hired after his family were killed, meaning Darcy wasn't responsible for anything that happened. This is one reason why he wouldn't want him dead. Also, he tells his girl that he won't kill anyone that has kids or anything because he doesn't want to ruin a family or something close to that when she brought him to the drunks place and asked for him to be killed. So because Darcy has a wife and kids, he might not want to kill him. So those two reasons make complete sense.

But then Darcy asks if its because of his family why he wasn't killed, Victor says NO, its because they have you?!? What does that even mean? The other two reasons are plausible, this one just sounds like poor writing. He's a fully grown adult that chose this line of work knowing full well that he will have to hurt or kill people, even innocent civilians. So how does anyone "have him?" I liked the movie otherwise, decent entertainment. But this line has me baffled. I'm wondering if I'm just missing something or if it was just a stupid line by a bad writer.

His wife and kid have him. Victor didn't kill him out of consideration for his wife and kid, not out of consideration for him.

reply

See that makes sense except for the fact that Victor said no to that answer. Darcy asks if its because the wife and kid and Victor said no. So the whole "they got you" line makes no sense. Should have left the no out of it. Thanks for the answer though, that's what I originally thought.

Just playing with words.Actually reminds Darcy of what he gone through being the one who stayed alive and suffered for the loss of his wife and kid.He could not make Darcy's his wife and kid go over something like he went through,by killing Darcy.
