How is Colin still getting paid
He is box office poison
shareBox office is not an indicator of the most interesting or good movies.
shareYou're a wise woman stilla. Maybe he gets payed in razors?
It's awful how we've spiraled into 'box office boffo' or 'total failure'.
Not every film is made to be a Harry Potter film.
Colin Farrell is considered a reliable working actor. Directors like that . . . for obvious reasons.
"It's not that I'm stupid. I just don't think sometimes." - Colin Farrell
Yes, I agree. It's all about the money, more now than ever. Just had a peek at the Twilight films and they got ratings from 4 something to 5 something and still theĆ½ made the BO skyrocketed. I won't say anything about the Twilight since I haven't seen the franchise but I like Kristen Stewart's personal style.
And I'll have to admit that I haven't seen Colin Farrell since In Bruges in which he was really good and won a GG. Maybe cause he reminds me of my ex, haha. Anyway, I do think he's, as you say a reliable working actor and I really hope this will turn out to something really good. With Oplev at the helm I'm quite confident but on the other hand when foreign directors arrive in Hollywood it's not always a hit. But I'm counting on Niels Arden.
The reason Colin getting pay cause directors like him and he good actor who underrated

Some directors only make films that they want to see, or create a work of art. Look at people like Lars Von Trier and you would see that.

Not to mention he's an excellent actor.

You stay classy, San Diego.
You are right, box office is not indicative of bad...but Colin IS. He has no talent, and he is too pussy to be a bad ass.I am so mad that Noomi is in this. It will be the first movie of hers that I don't see.

He's very good at playing a dick, a player or a lovable loser. Not so good at playing a hero. He's got that high intelligence thing going. And he's good at telling the story with his eyes. Which is probably why directors like him, because it makes it much easier to edit the movie. You just don't sense much empathy or righteous indignation from him. Which is a must have for a hero part. Perhaps he should try villain roles.
shareYour loss.

i fully agree. i used to hate colin before in bruges.
now i like him.
The thing I find with Farell is that when he is given a good role (In Bruge, Phone Booth, Minority Report) he can be brilliant but he does pick a fair few duds with little character focus in between good films and as a result he gets his fair share of criticisms.
Yeah but like I said give the man a good role and he is impressive. I personally like him although he is not amongst my favourites.

because he's a good actor
shareOP is sort of right, there are so many actors out there struggling to get work. Colin used to be amazing at times, like truly he had the spark and maybe even magic at points. but lately he's gotten lazy or just been in way to cliche roles, it's getting stale. I think the last thing I saw him in where I was like "Great job" was maybe the side role in Crazy heart. also he wasn't too bad in that vampire 80s movie adaptation. but look at how he preformed in the remake of Total Recall (granted that movie was so sloppy and ugly all over the place it wouldn't have mattered). his acting was pretty stale. this movie looks like he's doing the schtick where he doesn't have to do much at all to be honest
I agree I think it's strange he keeps getting these action/bad ass roles when he clearly his best fit to do unusual roles. he's one of those actors who's got the talent to do amazing when stretched to try new things, but when you keep putting him on repeat roles practically he loses interest and effort. just IMO
If i go crazy will you still call me Superman?
Johnny Knoxville is box office poison, Farrel just makes a lot of really good movies but save the occasional Total Recall he is not the lead of big Hollywood movies. Farrel is a terrific actor though and even if doesn't rake in the huge dollars at the box office he is still making great movies and I am happy to watch most of them.
shareThere was a Time that the same was said about Johnny Depp. Every Movie Before Pirates of the Caribbean was considered "box office poison". Truth Be Told I never cared for Colin Farrell until #In Bruges and then #London Boulevard changed my mind. but Guiltily I was always a fan of Phone Booth...
I dunno don't really judge him so harshly anymore.

I dare anyone to watch Horrible Bosses, In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths & London Boulevard & not come away wondering why Colin Farrell is still getting paid. I admit that I never really cared for him but after seeing him in Seven Psychopaths he completely changed the way I felt about him as an actor. And this movie, Dead Man Down, looks amazing.
shareWhy not Tigerland as well, the film that jump started his career?

I don't wanna be that guy but I think you meant to say "I dare anyone to watch Horrible Bosses, In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths & London Boulevard & come away wondering why Colin Farrell is still getting paid." The way you said it implies he is a *beep* actor.
shareI'm glad you were that guy before I had to be that girl.

colin farrell is a wonderful actor i cant believe all the haters on this site he has the perfect look to be a bad ass cause hes a bad ass in real life stop hating!! dead man down is gonna own see that tech-9 damn
share...I agree 100% with what I think you are saying?!...lol.......those were are amazing performances and one that really caught me off guard was London Boulevard....many of his characters are often somewhat manic and in LB, he was so cool and his performance so subdued and restrained, yet strong and powerful...amazing...it was such a different role than we typically see him...and he had great chemistry with Keira Knightly, and their relationship was also underplayed perfectly...great role though......I am really looking forward to his Winter's Tale with co-stars Jessica Brown-Findlay and Russell Crowe....
share7 Psychopaths bombed because it is an indie film that didn't get good advertising, Total Recall and Fright Night bombed because they were remakes of moves only a few decades old that are cult favorites, The Way Back had a small release, Imaginarium bombed, because Terry Gilliam films never do too well, and do I need to say why a Terrence Malick film did poorly? The films he does most of the time does not attract a large audience and that is due to the subject of the film and not him himself.

hes said on numerous occasions that he does movies for himself - movies that he wants to do. a lot of actors pick roles they believe will make money at the box office. some do it for the accolades. some do movies for stature. some do movies for personal financial security. while we may not like all his choices... he'll have his choice at blockbuster or the periodically low budget film; the choice is really his. hes not going anywhere for a long time.
besides... ive read all these posts and no one mentioned 'the recruit'. have u gone insane? that is a terrific movie. its got a little bit of everything - action, drama, intrigue, thrill, suspense.
no one has mentioned Ondine either, which, in my opinion, is a great movie.
shareYour right, he's had no box-office top-billing big-buget hit or at least hasn't had one in quite a while ("Total Recall" was a relative bust and "Miami Vice" barely broke even)...I don't think the "Alexander" debacle had been completely forgotten until he won a Golden Globe.
I'd say, and I think most on the subject would agree, that his acting for the most part has been not only pretty consistent, but also he seems to be getting better and better with every film aside from the obvious roadblock (or more like paycheck) that was "Total Recall".
And I understand why some of the top filmmakers in the world have always noticed him because he was great in "Tigerland", way back in 1999 when he was first discovered. It's a true breakout performance that deserved his immediate placement on the A-List in the same way that "Mulholland Drive" propelled Noami Watts, or Ryan Gosling with "The Believer".
Sure, Colin has his looks. But the man DOES have talent, unlike Hayden Christensen or Orlando Bloom or Paul walker or Kutcher any of the countless, vapid, one-note pretty-boy stars his age who have no business being stars.
