A trailer worthy of an Oscar
..but you might want to skip the movie.
Many have written how the trailer misrepresents the movie, so did anyone not see the movie before the trailer, and if so do you agree after watching the trailer?

Didn't see the trailer. Loved the movie.

I don't know, man. I liked the movie alot.
A trailer is just a trailer.
This trailer is a perfect representation of why I don't watch trailers. I saw the movie without having seen the trailer, and I enjoyed it a lot. I just watched the trailer you linked, and it's a completely different movie. They basically abuse the one action scene in the movie, and then cut it in with many other mild parts that make it look as if it were an epic non-stop movie.
This is exactly the reason I wait get into the theater 10 minutes after the movie "starts", and I avoid all kinds of trailers (videogames do the same thing).
The trailer made it look like this was just another bang-bang-bang chain of action sequences and didn't bother with a plot or anything actually interesting going on; that was more than enough to make me decide not to watch it.
The reviews of what the film's REALLY like, though, have persuaded me to change my mind.
Many trailers misrepresent the movie they're promoting as was the case here. All the best moments are put in a trailer to draw the punters in. That is why I never pick a movie based on what I see in a trailer.
The only time I use a trailer to pick a movie is if the trailer is bad. Then I won't see the movie because if they can't even make the trailer good by cherry picking good bits as you describe, then the movie is likely to be rotten.
shareJust because a trailer is bad doesn't mean the film is and the opposite is also true. The trailer for Heaven's Gate was lousy, but once I saw it became one of my favourite films. The trailer for The Phantom Menace was very good but the film was dreadful. So using the trailer as a guide is pointless as far as I'm concerned. The same goes for choosing a film based on reviews.
Why people give a flying toss about trailers is beyond me. Aside from creating hype (usualy the wrong kind, as with the Dead Man Down trailer, since it was shown as some kind of action film instead of a more character driven one) they don't do much. I found that I've been enjoying films a lot more after I decided to evade trailers as much as I can...
P.s. Oh, and they actualy go as far sometimes to have a trailer of a trailer, or a premiere of a trailer! Nauseating marketing nonsense.
I agree. But the studio muckity mucks think trailers SELL the movie and put but cracks in the seats. It's ridiculous and they often expect writers to tailor the movie with scenes that can be used in a tailor. You have to have "hot" scenes for the trailer. They really mess up good movies, like this one. This one had a fairly decent premise, but they needed it to be a bang bang shoot'em up with pyrotechnics to boot. I'd be curious how the director would have edited it.
shareI'm right there with you man. That trailer was a work of art. I work at one of the biggest movie trailer companies in the world (not to gloat, but for context) and DAMN was it top quality. I'm scared to watch the movie now that it'll lower my appreciation for the trailer, haha
shareseriously, the trailer has its own story!
shareThere is no denying - the trailer is n absolute work of art. Perfectly choreographed with music, action and drama.
The first time I watched this trailer I was blown away. The person or team that created this - should be directing their own movies.
i bet they already got a few offers because of this trailer.
shareI watched trailer after seeing the film (thanks to this thread). I thought it represented the film extremely well. But, I guess I could see how some might have expectations of more actions. Yet, some of the scenes in the trailer (e.g. the talking before showing him / her across balconies), and some of the dialogue, hinted that this was more than an action flick.
shareand also a lot of the scenes in the trailer didnt even make it into the film!
I watched the movie first, then saw the trailer and I think it was the best way
the trailer gave away too many scenes.
I don't even watch trailers anymore because they put WAY too much in and give away things they shouldn't just to draw an audience.
Poor form.
I agree, I avoid trailers, I just now watched the trailer and it seemed to fit the movie... Do not know what people are talking about.
It's more enjoyable not knowing what will happen or what the movie is about.
Especially The World End... or At Worlds End?, that movie was great not knowing what to expect.
