The Terms of Endearment Scene at the animal hospital

I go through highs and lows with this show but the scene where they parody the famous Shirley McClain hospital freak out scene from Terms of Endearment was fierce. I couldn't believe they parodied that scene. Kudos !!

I have seen Terms of Endearment so many times....his reenactment of that scene was amazing! I didn't think the writers needed to explain it, though. That is an iconic scene, right?

I agree with you, 100 percent, that Shirley Maclaine breakdown WAS the 80's!! And yes, you are so right : the writers did not need to explain that scene. In fact, I loved that scene up until their explanation. I thought the explanation dumbed it down and made it less . . .fierce. Nevertheless, I totally dug it and I couldn't believe they went there. It was great !

That scene was PERFECT... up until when they had to explain the joke to us. Such a no-no in a good sitcom. For those that got the reference, it was fall on the floor hilarious. For those that weren't familiar with the movie, it was still a damn funny moment.

That's true. I remember the first time I heard a friend facetiously imitating DeNiro, "Are YOU talking to me?" I thought it was hilarious, even though I had never heard of that scene at the time! I thought it was a send-up of a certain type.

That was the only great part of this episode... I was dying!

I wouldn't think so, but then again I am 36 years old... for some of the younger (under 25ish?) viewers, they probably did need the explanation. If they hadn't thrown that in, you just KNOW we'd have a bunch of kids asking "what was that all about?" on the forums.

Loved it. Home both guys get Emmy noms this summer, although I know that's rare for a freshman show.
