Inquiry about Beyond the Sea (spoilers)

It seemed odd that these 2 astronauts didn't seem to answer to anyone. I would think something as serious as a multi-million dollar Replica getting trashed by a cult would be addressed directly with David and Cliff by NASA (or whoever was running the show) And I would think there would be rules and policies regarding using someone else's Replica. Other than that, it was a good episode.
