The new season is annoying
Because every episode so far feels incomplete like they had a idea and didn’t know how to finish up the story so the episode just ends.

shareThat's actually not true of most of the episodes this season.
It does seem far different from the last 3 seasons which were really powerful stories.

I disagree. I've like all of them so far.
😎
I agree that the endings tend to not be the most interesting part of Black Mirror. It's usually the concepts, and some of the development in the middle.
I still liked the season though, and think it's a great series overall.
It wasn't my favorite episode this season, but I think I liked the ending of 'Crocodile' the best. It wrapped everything up nicely, and the twist worked for me.
I thought that ending was particularly problematic. Throughout the episode its clear that the interrogator has to talk the person through the process like a psychoanalyst as they would playback their memory. They even used a particular fragrance (Hops) as a prompt. How does that work with a Hamster? How is it essentially easier to use this tech on a primitive creature with a different brain structure than it is on a human? I liked the idea that she couldn't escape her comeuppance. I just thought the twist with regards to the tech was lazy and underdeveloped.
shareI thought of it like this: Maybe it is very easy with that technology to pull up fresh memories from right away, or the last few hours, without even having to question them. Perhaps the hard part is tapping into a random day, or event, from days or weeks or months ago. Which is why they have to jog those kinds of hazier memories, with questions & smells and things like that. So maybe if the guinea pig witnessed something a year ago, they would be fucked; but since they saw a crime scene and know it *just* happened, maybe it's easy to pull up that kind of thing from any brain. Just an idea I had anyway.
shareThat's a pretty good rationalization. But I don't like to insinuate an explanation that is completely unclear within the context of the story. Plus there are two problems with your explanation. First, Hamsters don't have short term memories with regards to deviations in their daily routine. They'll remember feeding time and what time you get home but something like a murder would be forgotten completely in about an hour, if that. Second, the insurance investigator was interviewing people maybe a day after the accident. So if she needs to help people remember a very recent event, the idea that it would be easier with an animal that has no capacity for short term memory abstractions is absurd.
shareNo offense, but you referring to a guinea pig as a hamster makes me seriously question your status as an expert regarding complex details of their brain function & capacity. :-)
That said, I'm certainly no expert either, ha. Just a fan of good TV.
Well they are both rodents. Rodents don't have complicated brain functions. But your right, I mistook that for a Hamster. That being said, I never claimed to be an expert. But I'm glad you liked the episode
shareThe lack of sophistication might make their brains easier to dig through. Like you said though, it's all speculative explanation.
Which episode of Black Mirror do you like the best from the entire series?
I agree for the most part. I liked the season but its probably my least favorite. All the stories are good, but they feel like excerpts of a longer story rather than completed concepts. Episode 4 and 6 were probably the most complete but I found those stories the least interesting. I was also completely baffled by episode 1. I thought I would love it but I have no idea what kind of message they were trying to send. Maybe because I found the premise of digital cloning with completely self aware characters in a video game hard to buy and therefore hard to empathize with.
Season 3 is my favorite thus far.
^ agree I liked it but it felt like incomplete story’s wanting to be full length movies that got chopped up.
I’m just disappointed we wait so long for them to give us a little bit of episodes.
