broke all the time

Why are the girls so completely broke?
Their appartment is a sh.. hole that can't cost much and Gabi has a steady job and Sophia is working again, too.
So where does their money go?
It's just not that funny when it's this unbelievable

I guess they are buying a lot of clothes. They dont wear same clothes. Different shoes, different clothes, everytime I saw them, they look be different. I want to tell them 'dont buy more clothes, buy stocks and wait until rising up to the roof'

Also, if the story is to be believed and they truly live in San Francisco, that crappy apartment you mentioned would be about $3500 a month in rent. Maybe more.

reply

Well San Francisco is pretty expensive. That crappy apartment likely costs a lot of money a month. Here's one property and that's actually pretty cheap for a nice place in the bay area. http://www.apartments.com/soma-square-san-francisco-ca/8zcfk91/#

Crappy apartment? It may be small but it looks pretty good to me. Anyway it's a sitcom it's supposed to look fun and bubbly.

reply

I was just sort of quoting the OP who used a more colorful word for it.

It's actually pretty believable that they are broke. Rent in SF is expensive as hell. Sofia was an intern before losing her job so she wasn't getting paid much (most internships aren't even paid). Gabi is most likely making decent money but it's debatable how far her paycheck goes.

I'm just throwing out a number but someone living in Iowa making 50k a year is going to appear "richer" than someone living in SF/LA/NY/etc making 50k a year.

reply

There is no way in hell they would be able to afford to live in San Francisco.

reply

how much money does one need to make a year to live comfortably in SF?

reply

Apartments can average over $4k a month for 900 sqft. And $2k for one bedroom studio apartment. That's before cost of food, utilities, transportation, etc. A lot of yuppies from silicon valley priced everyone out like they do everywhere. They did it in New York. Yuppie contractors did it in Washington DC. The list is endless.

reply

Wow!! That's a lot of money. Have you lived there before?

reply

Have family in San Francisco. I never cared for the city.

reply

Have you ever been to San Francisco?! It's expensive! That apartment, which you call a sh..hole would be pricey. And how much do you think a person working at a gym and a personal chef make?

reply

San Francisco is expensive. They probably don't make that much. That is probably really is the best they can do.

reply

San Francisco is now the most expensive city in the US, so even with both of them working full-time jobs it's likely they can only get by with the bare minimum, not to mention they both probably make minimum wage.

A private chef should be clearing over $50,000. But she doesn't have the credentials to be a private chef so I dont how much he's paying her.

reply

I mean I live in NJ in a suburb outside of NYC. My roommate and I both clear over 50 K and we can only afford a small apartment. That's a suburb of a city. Imagine how much it must cost to live IN a big city.
