Disappointing
I know there's a lot of respect and affection for the director, but I personally found Holy Motors very disappointing.
It has highly polished production values and an unusual approach to storytelling, but as each eye-catching scene passes by it becomes more and more obvious that the whole adds up to much less than the sum of its parts. By the time Kylie Minogue is singing her big number, it's obvious we're meant to be arriving at some kind of peak, but I was still feeling nothing for these characters or events, other than boredom.
Over-stuffed, and at the same time empty. As Jack Torrance says, "Lots of ideas. No good ones."
