what does the title mean?

Holy Motors
Any idea?

reply

Motors that are holy

The cinema.

reply

Literally, it refers to the name of the 'home' of the chauffeur driven cars that cruise around Paris during the film.

Léos Carax, the director, hates the new digital cameras and the title refers to the "golden age" of camera with motor in it. The director used to say on the set "Motor, camera, action". Carax fears that a day no one would ever say again "action" before shooting...

Holy as in Hollywood and Motors as in the driving force behind the industry

"Can people handle the truth"

reply

An interesting point. I dont really see any reference to that in the movie though.

reply

Motors, the driving forces which we consider "ours" and, inevitably, "holy", drive us through the route of changing masks and roles.

reply

We are the holy motors. Our bodies are. imho :D
