Not what I expected

This movie was told in a somewhat musical type format. I thought is was going to be told as more of a biography like "Bohemian Rapsody" which I enjoyed. I did enjoy the movie without all the fantasy-like musical scenes. The singing wasn't spectacular but still not bad. I have always loved Elton John's music.

I feel the same way. I was under the impression that it was a biographical type of movie too. I didn't care for the fantasy sequences. I too love Elton John's music but didn't care for the "musical" style of Rocketman.

Yes, if you can get through the 1st 15 minutes then most of the film afterwards is worth seeing. I had the same issue with it: it didn't know what it wants to be-- a musical fantasy or a true biopic. So they just went back and forth between both formats which doesn't really work. I thought the biopic part was well done; I had the advantage of watching on DVD so I can skip past the cringeworthy moments: Elton's trysts and the musical fantasy stuff.
