For a remake, they did a good job
At first I was dubious, "oh it's extreme sport to appeal to a 21st century audience"
But the whole storyline of being earth-warriors/spirtualists was pretty good. Who'd think of extreme atheletes doing this for some Nirvana/zen motive?
The first Point Break they were just robbing banks to fund their extreme-surfing lifestyle.
Which is greed more or less.
This had an anarchists/earth warrior motive, and that was a clever rewrite.
I particularly liked how he shot his girlfriend from a story-telling point of view. It showed how destructive this guys theology was and why he needed to be taken down, as well as raising the stakes for Utah.
In the end, he wasn't trying to arrest his nemesis, he was trying to save him. So I give this movie big marks for their clever rewrite.
Only downfall (as mentioned) was the color grading, and I'll throw in his unfortunate very dark and very "temporary" looking tattoos.
