So. Damn. Awful.

Just awful. You have to watch to really unappreciated it. Swayze turning in his grave. I'm sorry.

Loved Point Break with Swayze/Reeves so I decided to rent this one ad give it a shot. I had a free rental coming and seriously I wish I could get it back. This was by far the worst re-make I have ever seen. In fact, as movies go this one might be the worst movie I've ever seen and at 47yrs old I've seen some stinkers.

reply

Definitely the worst remake of an original that was made in my lifetime (1981) ...

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

One of the dumbest openings I've seen.

Utah sucks, Bodhi sucks, everyone's covered in douchey tattoos and is oh so EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Oh, and the scene where he fires his handgun in the air while yelling made me cringe so hard my spine almost snapped.

People *beep* on Keanu's acting abilities but he was a much better Utah than this guy, and Kathryn Bigelow is a better director.

reply

The tattoos were stupid-looking. I don't care if it's paying homage to some culture or tribal thing, had no structure nor did it fit right on their bodies. I don't care if the artist is freaking talented and graduated with honors at a makeup academy, it looked like crap. The girl's bird tattoos did not turn out well...Anyone with similar tattoos of stars or flocks, usually doesn't look good and you wasted your money and skin, and I don't care if its paying homage to your deceased loved ones. They wouldn't want you to do it.

Yeah, this sums up my feelings on this one.

Huge fan of the original. This one. No. Just no.

If anyone readijNg this is thinking of see it, go YouTube these terms and save yourself the money and crappy acting:
Motocross Freeriding/Freesyle
Wingsuit Base Jumping
Big Wave Surfing

reply

Have yet to see the original and this movie was still sort of lame. The action scenes were good. My care for the story and and character likeability was minimal...

reply

Go watch the original.

Right now.

Trust Me.

reply

Just watched both (first new one then original) and i completely agree. Sceneries and visuals are great but bad script and stupid dialogs makes remake unwatchable. I guess thats why they made it PG13 (when i was 13 i thought 1998 Godzilla was great). Anyway good thing i watched original second and i have to say that it was one pure adrenaline rush. The movie grabs you and doesnt let go till the end. I think in right hands remake could have been an instant classic but again committee (greedy studio bastards) just wanted to make a quick nostalgia cash...

reply

Could not agree more.

I'm not even sure why this is called Point Break. This was clearly an EXTREME rip off of Fast and The Furious and old-school Mountain Dew commercials. It was bad. Maybe the worst movie I've ever seen.

Nothing. Made. Sense.

Plus, Utah is indirectly responsible for every single death in the film. He's the most culpable of anyone.

reply

I kept thinking one of them was going to jump off a bridge and grab a SPLODE!

reply

Fast & Furious has the exact same plot as the original Point break.

I agree, very disappointing. It was all about the action sequences. They spent over 100 million dollars - you'd think they'd have used some of that money to buy a decent screenplay.

reply

Indeed. It makes the original look like Schindlers List. Worst writing, storytelling, and directing all in one, in any movie, of the last 5 years that I have seen. (I do avoid some stupid ones, but since I liked the original Point Break alot, I had to watch this.)

Just make sure you are able to fast forward through pretty much all the dialogue, and you will be OK.

Wasn't it just crap?

The idea of the Osaki 8 was okay, except that none of them were all that special. The best one was the skydiving into the sinkhole cave, but that was just a footnote. The others (surfing, wingsuit, snowboarding) is the same stuff that I can see on youtube (and it's usually better on youtube).

reply

It felt like a crappy student film emulating a good film. Eff this movie.
