My feelings toward this remake are fifty fifty.

Before I begin I just want to say this movie was not horrible but it wasn't great either. Now I know I shouldn't compare a remake to the original but, when using the same title and names of main characters it's hard not to. When I first started watching it the bad guys in this version seemed less charismatic, and animated than the ones in the original. But after watching the entire movie they didn't get much screen time which meant the viewers didn't get enough time to know them. Therefore my first judgement of those characters wasn't fair. I did however enjoy a few of the subtle nods to the original. I may have liked this movie a little more had it not been titled "Point Break" but, if that were the case certain fans would
have still complained and said "They're just ripping off Point Break." In that situation it was a "Damned if you do damned if you don't" scenario. Those are my overall thoughts on the remake.

This movie is pretty horrible, but I enjoy watching it a lot. The special effects are decent.

Why not? I think that comparing a remake of a movie to its original is one of the most "fair" comparisons that you can make between movies. Comparing two random movies is often unfair because there are different target audiences and goals and other factors, but the whole point of a remake is to redo a film in a better style or interpretation. A remake only exists because of its dependence on the original movie, and its perfectly fair to judge how well the result turned out.
