Good question. It's just one of the many details that distracted me from enjoying the story - what story there was. This movie really didn't do much for me, and I think that's why - I was too distracted by the million little discrepancies and bothersome details. Usually, I can put the little things out of my mind and just get into the story, but this time all I found myself doing throughout the whole movie was asking "Why in the world did he/she <fill in the blank>?"
