Just watched the feature film "The Boy" and it has a vaguely similar plot line. This however is the more preferable film. I like that it had a strong supernatural element.
"Housebound" also runs with the same idea but it's more of a dark comedy. Does anyone know any others?

Two movies come to my mind, both spanish:

El habitante incierto (2004)
La cara oculta (2011)

Both are more bound to earth and lack the "strong supernatural element" you seem to like, though.
