Were the bungee spear men that viable?

I know it's a fantasy film, but seeking genuine answers about such a combat tactic... it seems like the rest of them would get taken down like the one guy in the film. Unless that one guy got unlucky, or just wasn't really skilled.

They couldn't just focus more on long ranged attacks? Reuse arrows? Gunpowder... i guess that's much more finite.

I can't imagine that you can be any good at sword or spear fights while bungee jumping.

Obviously I've never tried it, but I have heard that "for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction". So logically, if you take a swing at something and connect, wouldn't have the force go into removing the target's head, and the other half push you away as you dangle on your rope? And if someone else hits you, even if the blow bounces off of your armor wouldn't the force make you spin around and around at the end of your rope? And since it take you so long to drop, wouldn't your enemies have plenty of time to shoot at you with arrows or get the super-long spears or torches ready for your arrival, as you drop down knowing you can't change course or do a damn thing do defend yourself?

This was one goofy movie, but that may have been the silliest thing in it.

OK... so it wasn't just me :D

Well it was pretty cool to see but from a pratical point of view it made no sense :

1. High casualties in your own rank, as we saw;
2. You lose a spear everytime you have a hit;
3. A simple bow would probably be as much lethal and 10 times safer.
4. You have strong people who pull them back … instead of shooting at the monsters with a bow.

I found it quite strange how the film builds up the bungee spear tactic to be some "cool" & highly effective secret weapon only for it to prove quite inefficient & pointlessly dangerous as one would imagine it would be.

It is left to the viewer to understand that the creatures at one point were easily beaten by this "tactic" and all of the other tactics as they evolved after each interaction.

The bungee fighters and perfectly synchronised theatrical drummers were supremely annoying.
