watched it anyway, because most American movie go-ers hate subtitles. So shut up on the "whitewashing" BS. But I actually like the idea of the film as a unique take on one of the "7 Wonders of the World", as of 2007, that is.
well it would have to depend on the movie and how well it did
being half chinese I wish that they would Hire Joshua Lee Young Raphael Toopit Justin Chon Ki Hong Lee Keanu Reeve Kesley Chow to be in a show about a biracial chinese white family but my family doesnt speak chinese but I wish we did
You are correct. However, in my case if I am going to sit down to watch some mindless cliched drivel I don't want to have to read it. Because chances are the dialogue will be rubbish anyway, and horribly acted. There's plenty of American filler, I don't need to go Asian to get more.
And I'm sorry, but Asian dumb films double-down on the dumb. I'm sure the translation suffers, and this doesn't help. But there are some cultural differences, and expectations of the audience, that are just mismatched, especially in action and blockbusters.
There are clearly some smart people in Asia, because there are smart films, worth actually paying attention to (and reading). Many - not so much.
Hell, I sat through Hero. But the whole love Chinese authority message left a bad taste in my mouth. I went in for all that mystical kung fu, flying swords stuff when I was a late teen, got tired. At least Crouching Tiger avoided all the BS political messaging that Zhang Yimou seems to put into his films.
It IS an Asian made film, made by Asians for Asians, in particular Chinese. Or did you think this was made for Americans. Do about 123 seconds of research. Directed by Chinese, produced mostly by Chinese, filmed in China and all but three of the actors are Chinese. I don't know how you could get any more "Asian" than that. Watch the trailer. Did you ever hear dialog that stilted and simplistic in any movie, other than Conan, or by Damon in almost every movie he's made? I'm guessing Damon's in it for no other reason than to pull more money in. Judging by the trailer he's certainly not in it for his acting.
