Nobody crying about the hot air balloons lol

So nobody has a problem with people flying in a bunch of hot air balloons over the capital city in 15th century China or a corps of female only, bungee jumping, spear wielding, blue armour wearing babes but a couple European mercenaries making their way eastward searching for a mysterious "black powder" secret weapon, get captured, taken prisoner by the Chinese at the Wall just as a huge wave of monsters is attacking then helping out because y'know, MERC SKILLZ and all - everyone loses their chit!?

This should be a fun board to keep track of lol!

you do know there were SOME very rare though Samurai and chinese warriors and even civil war soliders that were woman

Look like Tarzan talk like Jane! HAHA

reply

Yeah, I know but I'm talking about an entire CORPS DIVISION of women only fighters who are specifically trained for repeated BUNGEE JUMPING SPEAR ATTACKS off high walls against invaders...not a handful of woman warriors here and there throughout history.

If it that was true (hint: it isn't), so what?

I had never heard of these female samurai.

In fact in my utter ignorance I thought you were talking out your sphincter.

So I just went on wikipedia, and I read about Onna-bugeisha, and about the few hundred confederate women that joined up.

Very interesting, but of course its all from wikipedia, and as you pointed out earlier anyone can edit it, so logically its all made up, and even though I am otherwise completely ignorant of these women in those wars I'll assume you are talking rubbish because its wikipedia, and I was correct all along.

Oh wait, hang on. I'm not you.

reply

Do you have posts like that under all fantasy movies? Cause if not, you got a lot of work before you. Don't let others get in your way!

reply

Eh, I think you might be missing my point lol.

reply

I surely hope so. That sounded like a horrible point to make (that "nobody crying about the hot air balloons"). What was it then exactly, that you tried to express in a bit of a weird manner? I must say, after I read it again now, that it's not especially clear from your post.

reply

I'm being snarky in my post lol.

I'm saying it's DUMB that people are complaining about HISTORICAL ACCURACY, (European dudes in China) in a movie trailer that ALSO shows people FLYING AROUND IN HOT AIR BALLOONS, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2034800/mediaviewer/rm4123593472) as well as an ENTIRE CORPS DIVISION of spear wielding female warriors who are bungee jumping off the Great Wall.

So there are plenty of "historical inaccuracies" to go after in this movie but complainers are only zeroing in on ONE of them... and this amuses me.

I am totally salty about Scarlet Johannson as Motoko Kusanagi, but i don't have i huge problem with Matt Damon in an medievil chinese fantasy epos.
I also think that the marketing for the movie is aimed at the chinese so its obviously that they put Matt upfront, even if he is one of 5 leads.

reply

Definitely agree about Scarlet - reminds me of the rumors some time ago of DiCaprio for an Akira movie...just NOOOOOOOO!!

This movie makes me wonder, is Damon even popular in China? I haven't followed any of the Bourne series China box office or anything or how his other movies do there.

reply

Matt Damon is universally popular. He is even the most popular man on Mars. Don't doubt him.

reply

And he captured the hearts of the Latino population when he married an Argentinean.

reply

I think she is perfect for the role.

Who else can play an empty husk like Scarlet?

And she pretty much just did the same role for Lucy (character AND plot).

reply

You know at the General's funeral when they released all those lanterns, it totally looked like the Chinese "wish lanterns" that you can actually make by hand, then write your wish and set it afloat (with the fire). They had this tradition for 3-4 thousand years, so going from a wish lantern (small version) to a balloon (larger version), isn't that much of a logical leap although I am very surprised Strategist Wang would have them use gunpowder as the fuel, that just seems overly dangerous.

reply

I missed they were using gunpowder as fuel, (saw the movie 8 months ago), that would explain the other balloons exploding.

Well, Wang could only test his theory in the heat of battle, no time for testing!
