Why title the movie the Great Wall?

In fact the Great Wall failed because of the tunnel the beasts built under it and the decisive battle was fought in Bianliang, the capital of China. I would rather title the movie the Empire under attack.

Everyone knows Great Wall of China so it's an easy hook to the audience and everyone knows right away that this movie happens in China. Empire Under Attack doesn't tell a lot in the title itself and is more "generic".

Lol. No. By that logic any movie taking place in this setting or any movie in china even, should be called the Great wall. "That way we all know from the title it has to do with china." lol seriously? Is this your first movie that takes place in china perhaps? Don't get much of the foreign titles near you? Especially Chinese movies it seems. This is as generic as it gets.

Plenty of great films from china or taking place in china, near, at, or involving the location, have good names other than " From china" or "the great wall". The Empire Under Attack is EASILY less generic than "The great wall". At least then i would be curious about what nations are at war, or what the conflict is, what war is in question and imagine an epic battle rather than just the wall of china and that's a good thing. The great wall is immediately the title of any documentary about the great wall of china. In that case sure. But not in a film.

In a movie The name should be relevant to the content, what the movie is about not the location. "Invasion from below" "Bootleg aliens vs yellow fists" "White guy bigger arrows" You can incorporate the wall if you want like, example "A Tall order" but at least it's hinting at the content of the movie a little.
A title like "Takes place in china" would be absolutely awful, as bad as "the great wall". unless its the only film you've ever seen taking place in china but then i would say. srsly?...

Any movie in China can't be called The Great Wall if they have nothing to do with Great Wall. For instance, having "The Great Wall" as a title for a rom-com in Beijing would be stupid. Great Wall is in this film, so the title is at least fitting.

I am not 100% sure what you mean by this part. But as I am a Chinese from Malaysia, I am pretty sure I have watched more Chinese movies than you do.

Firstly, I have not said it's a good name; I just think being specific to the setting helps in this case. I personally think a blockbuster movie's title should be straight-to-the-point, as to tell people what to expect in the film. And it's not like they can tell what they are doing around the Great Wall either, they just know Great Wall is definitely a place in the movie. I personally don't see it too different from naming a "Captain America" movie "Captain America" as it tells the audience right away "this movie is about this thing/location/character/whatever".

Also, some movies in the past do only have the location on its name like "Chinatown" and "Chicago", I fail to see how this is different or "not right". And it's not like I can know what the movie is about from "Chinatown" or "Chicago" either. When I see "Chicago" name, I would be curious to find out what the heck that movie is about, instead of just imagining Chicago from it. If you can only imagine Great Wall because the movie is titled "Great Wall", then I don't know what to say. Personally I would be curious what can a movie do with Great Wall and try to find out about that.

I can agree with you on less obvious names and your points about it but I have always under the impression that blockbusters title are more "on the title" than being more subtle.

Unless its the only film you've ever seen taking place in china but then i would say. srsly?...

Again, I am sure I have watched more Chinese movies than you do. And I can do without all the "lol" and "srsly" and the sarcastic undertone if you would reply me. You are obviously a professional with your website and stuff but the "lols" and "srsly" just make you look childish to me.

Lol. Yes.

If they called it "Chinese Monster Attack", everyone would be reminded of that fun little cartoon from Monty Python involving the dreaded International Chinese Communist Conspiracy.
