But te Chinese director wanted a white guy to play the europeannin Thise mainly Chinese financed film that shot in China, with mainly Chinese cast and crew.

The 2 you've mentioned aren't even close in reputation and fame. Also Jackie Chan is too old.

Also, the role was written for a European character. There are six heroes in the film. Five are Chinese characters played by Chinese actors/actresses and one is a European (non-martial artist) character played by a white actor--Matt Damon.
