Premiering at Sundance Film Festival

I'd give anything to see this film, but I must admit after viewing the trailer and film website, I know this will be a disturbing movie. I was in DC for a few days that October and it was a frightening time. Isaiah Washington looks sinister.

hopefully its good, i remember when this was going on, it was facinating to watch all the coverage, when they used the term sniper and something would happen, the breaking news coverage of them shutting down interstates and going through car after car, and then in the end they were found by a truck driver calling in their car at a rest stop, hopefully it is a disturbing movie, it was pretty disturbing what they were doing

I just saw it today and is thus far my favorite film of the festival. It's quite harrowing.

It starts with John Allen Muhammad befriending Lee Boyd Malvo in Antigua, then builds up their relationship. You learn why Muhammad feels the way he feels, and you see how he manipulates Malvo to do his biddings.

The thing that is so disturbing about the movie is that, in a way, you feel for John Allen Muhammad; you can see why he has reached his snapping point. It's this weird struggle of empathizing with him and still knowing he's an evil, evil man.

There've been other movies to take this point of view, one that humanizes a "monster." In Cold Blood is one film that comes to mind; you see how these guys were clearly launched on a downward spiral and you end up feeling sorry for them even as they hang from the neck. Even Terence Malick's Badland humanizes the two kids who go on a killing spree after killing the girl's father.

We see more and more of these kinds of acts these days and it's best we try to understand why people are doing such horrible things rather than just viewing them as an isolated case that can't be explained.

Anyway, the web site and trailer are really spooky.
