Question about the ending (expect spoilers, obviously)

When Solomon was rescued at the end and taken away from Epps' plantation, why didn't he try and take Patsey away with him, esp as Epps had buggered off on his horse? I know it won't have been easy, but it's like the thought wasn't there.

Because it didn't work like that. He was not there legally as he was a free man and had papers to prove that. Patsy she wasn't free and belonged to Epps. I can imagine it broke his heart but he knew there was nothing he could do

Because back then, Patsy was considered Epp's property, just like his horse, mule, wagon, ploy etc., and you can't just walk away with another man's property, even if you don't like the treatment of the property. That's called theft.

I woke up this way...
