Grieving mother scene

Am I the only one who found the performance in the scene with the mother grieving over the loss of her child really unconvincing? The actress seemed to be crying hysterically, then suddenly has the emotional stability to have a conversation with Solomon, but then goes back to the hysterics? She seemed to be like a kid who pretends to be upset just so that they can get their way!

Exactly my thoughts. I thought she was awful.

There was a lot of below par acting in the film from the supporting cast.

Was it a millionaire who said "Imagine no possessions"?

Strongly disagree, why would you even say that? The lady just lost her kids and it really hurt her. The worst pain she could experience. It's like taking her heart and crushing it a million times over and over again. As much as she tried to be strong and not break down it's an unbearable pain and it didn't help that she was being treated so inhumanely. Her crying was realistic and believable if you were in her situation but the white slave owners didn't care and that's why they eventually sold her. I don't even have children and that scene broke my heart and the saddest thing is was that actually happened back then.
