What was the reason for Edwin Epps's obsession with Patsey and Mistress Epps's hatred for her?
I would just like to read other people's view on it.
In his eyes, she was a sweet, little thing, who he lusted after, and a hard worker. Mistress Epps probably didn't fulfill his sexual needs, so he took them from Patsey, making Mistress Epps jealous. I'm pretty sure their marriage was one of convenience - it was definitely one-sided, where she loved him, but those feelings were definitely not mutual.

Tastes differ, I thought she was really really beautiful. Also, it wasn't just about physical attraction - she was his little "pet", his hardest worker, his prized little possession. He took pride in owning her and he enjoyed the power he had over her.
