I liked this movie, it was a lot of fun. I can see some 'woke' criticism, I'm curious...

Was England a hundred years ago this racially progressive? Or is there a bit of retrofitting in this film?

The wonderful character of 'Woman Police Officer Moss' was played by an Indian actress, but she does not have an Indian name. There are three prominent black characters, one of whom is a judge. Pardon my ignorance, I would assume England was like the USA and was surprised to see this.

In any case, this movie had me smiling and laughing. I see definitely it was geared more toward women but I really enjoyed it as a man.

I can also anticipate some criticism in this as portraying the male cops as stumbling fools and the poor little woman is the smart hero who comes to the rescue.

They used the real name of the "woman police officer." I assume they probably hired the best actress they had for the job. They also changed Rose from English to Irish. I assume this was done after Jessie Buckley signed on.

You can not seriously be that naive...

It’s “colorblind casting” and it’s idiotic. Why not have costuming or props that ignore the time period, too? A flat screen would look good in the police office. Rose should drive a Tesla. Maybe the cops should wear Roman military outfits.

You can’t do that in a period piece. Every element of it is designed to create the period verisimilitude. Making the cast up with cast members whose racial makeup doesn’t align with history completely disrupts the period realism.

You wouldn’t cast white people in a film about the ancient Chinese or as African slaves.

Of course in some cases it can work, but these are rare and very specific and sometimes requires the story adapted to make sense.
