They called it Greek Catholic. But I did not think that was what they wore
tbh, I don't know what particular rite it was, but yeah, I'm assuming it was one of the Eastern Rites that have a close cultural connection w/ the Orthodox Church. It's an interesting complexity in the 'official' Catholic hierarchy that most of us are not much aware of or conversant with.
I'd be interested in any actual essential doctrinal differences (i.e. the 'nature' of Christ, The Trinity) that may exist between them and the RC - expect none. The Syrian & Coptic Christians, as I understand it, do have such different nuanced understandings of same.

shareOutside of RC and mainline Protestantism, which (surprisingly) DO agree on these matters, other Christian sects have differing understandings of the nature of Christ (humanity vs divinity), is Christ co-extensive (eternal) as the Father or emanated from him 'in time', the nature of the Trinity, etc.
The early church wrestled with all these matters, what was once considered acceptable by Church Fathers in the First Century became anathema/heresy as doctrine evolved in the 2d/4th.
