Nia's not the best

7 years in and I still wonder why Abby keeps her in the group. Her technique isn't getting better.

reply

Who is out there saying she is the best?

reply

Has Abby ever actually kicked any one off the team that was a permanent member because of their dancing skills? Just curious because I didn't watch all of seasons 2-4.

reply

Nah she can't without producers permission. All she can do is bully them
Whilst they're there

reply

I'll start by saying all the dancers have gifts and strengths of their own but a few need to decide if being a dancer is going to be their career. If so, they need to get away from Abby and find a company that'll help develop them more. Kendall, Nia, and Jo Jo are getting worse as time progresses. It's actually really sad.

reply

As I have said to another poster watch her Solo Shark on her Youtube page. You might not like her as a dancer but her technique has definitely improved.

reply

I wish people would stop judging her dance abilities off this show. When she's away from ALDC she shines. I've seen some really good work from her at other studios but she doesn't get to do the genres she's good at with Abby.

reply

Nia has a lot of talent and does well in the music videos and the gigs she's gotten from her agent. The sooner she leaves ALDC, the better her career will be.

reply

But she stays and stays; with Holly kvetchin' all the way! "Please GO!"

Exactly!

Why not go where you can grow and shine?

Fame of course.

Right. Holly will cling to this show until the light go off. The fact that they're the only originals left should tell her something. If you want your kid to be this huge mega star, why keep her on a show where she's portrayed as the weak link and way less than stellar? If she were a top dancer and winning first place in all her solos, that I could understand.

reply

She stays cause it's all about pride.
If she and Nia leave, then Abby wins. And we all know Holly would never let that happen.

On a side note, nia should join the rap game.

reply

Also Abby has a soft spot for Nia that we do not see on the show. Unlike Maddy who is a dance prodigy Nia was not very good when she was a little girl but has slowly been getting better and better. Abby has invested a lot of time in her which is why she treats her so badly when Nia and Holly go against her. Plus it's makes for good entertainment.

reply

Because people can see how Nia dances outside of the show I think being portrayed as an underdog and getting crappy choreography has gone in her favour.

reply

Yeah, the underdog thing only works for a while and only if the kid actually starts to make some real progress. People love to see an underdog WIN, not continue to stay in the same place for years. There's nothing positive about that no matter how you try to spin it. What it shows is a dancer being stuck in a rut not making much improvement. Not everyone is going to take the time to look up how she dances off the show. Those of us who take the time to post here might, but the average viewer watches the show and then goes on about their business. Nia needs to be in a place where her skills/talents can shine--i.e. the type of dance that suits her, acting lessons, double up on the voice lessons. This show offers her none of that. Basing her career on Abby and her feelings is a huge mistake.

reply

True I know people keep saying she should go to another studio or another show like bring it. As someone who has watched her progress I can tell she's been taking lessons outside of ALDC. Her feet have really improved. But ALDC brings the exposure I guess.

reply

This is obvious. Dance Moms is a fairly successful show and the exposure is worth a fortune. Sure, she can go to another studio, work on technique, hone her skills, but the only people watching are the ones in the dance studio.

"Lord what fools these mortals be!"... A Midsummer Night's Dream

reply

Yes exposure is worth a lot but you have to put what's in the best interest of your child first as some of the other moms were able to do. They've been exposed. People know your name. Now move on. Dance Moms is not the beginning and ending of life.

I'm not just talking about going to a new studio. I mean focusing on her acting and singing--those things will give her more opportunities. If Nia were seven or eight maybe they would have time to dick around with Abby, but she's not.

I'm sure we can all name more than a few stars who've made it without Dance Moms.

reply

To be fair Nia was just in a show over the summer, filmed a movie and hit the recording studio. So it's not like the show is taking away from that. I agree she should leave but she's getting excellent training elsewhere most days so what's the harm of the exposure? Nia looks better and better and it's because she does put in the off camera work.

The girl you should be worried about is Kendall. She's done the least off camera work (ie none besides magazine pictures) of every kid and is completely flat in her dancing.

reply

I've never had the feeling that Kendall really "wants it" all that much. Desire is half the battle.

reply

I think she wants the glitz and glamor part but not the hard work it takes to get there. Nia does extra training and extra intensives. We all know maddie was always in the studio. Chloe trains in La and PA whenever they are in ether city. She wants what these girls have but doesn't have the drive to do the work.

It doesn't help that her mom doesn't seem to make her do extra training. Jill has the same entitled attitude herself

Not worried about Kendall because I couldn't care less what she does. Don't like her. Don't like Jill. Don't care. I actually like Nia and see real talent in her that could be doing so much more. Yes, I know she's doing things and showing improvement. I keep up with what she's doing. The sky's the limit. She could be doing more.
