if The Help had built up to to that tense point and then Nia making a brave serious stance...only to have someone upstage it and break the tension with a stereotypical Little Evie fetch and step run comic run.

I felt the same way, but Camryn only did what she was directed to in the number, so the burden for that is on the choreographer.
