How come nightime is longer than daytime?
They were stranded, and it seems like it's only 5 minutes of daylight then suddenly it's nigh time again? WTF? Is this because of the radiation?

share...no. Radiation would have no effect on the amount of daylight. I figure it was one of two things: 1, as a northern city in the winter, it'd have less daylight than cities further south. However it wasn't cold. So 2, the directors made mistakes and did not provide appropriate timelines.
I'm guessing it was the second explanation.
They remark on it being very cold the first time they re-enter the van after the tour.
The premise of this thread is flawed though. We have quite a bit of material during the first day, and not very much during the first night. Yuri goes out, they go to find him and come back, and then it fades to morning. Then we have another daylight sequence. The final night is the most eventful and so we do see quite a bit of material for that night.
Like with any movie, they only show us the eventful moments. They're not going to show them for 4 hours of sleeping, or wandering around aimlessly without occurance.

Daytime seeming potentially safer would pass by quicker than a night full of terror is one explanation
Didn't seem like a big deal really, it wasn't shot in real time.

Because they're in Russia during the fall or early winter, and days are shorter during that time in the northern hemisphere. It also makes for better drama!
shareIt's a bit like The Evil Dead - Dead By Dawn, in which the sun comes up, Ash turns into a demon, the sun turns him back, he collapses, when he wakes up the sun starts to set.
It seems a common point with horror films where the days are always short.

51 degrees latitude is inline with London, so depends on the time of year, 16hr nights in winter, 6hr nights in summer.
Opinions are just onions with pi in them.
Um, the entire first part of the movie is shot in the daytime. Have you not noticed that most horror movies are set at night because that makes it creepier? Just because we see more nighttime scenes than daytime scenes does not mean it takes place in bizarro-world with effed up planetary allignments.
