When they found the spark plug part from the other van in the car lot

When they got back to the van (which wasn't there), even IF it was there how would they start the engine anyway as the battery had run flat?

Even at the car lot someone mentioned something along the lines of "can't we just take one of these cars", and a guy replied "they're batteries will be dead"...

They would push the van and let the starter do the rest. The battery would recharge itself when the car is on the move.

I do believe they even say that in the movie. Something like "we can roll start it".

Yes they do, because I had to process the line as I was expecting him to say 'bump start', I've never heard anyone call it a roll start (though it makes perfect sense :) )

What I didn't get was they already had the part, I thought the issue was they needed something to reattach it. Getting another part didn't seem to solve anything, but then I've clearly messed something :)

'Bump start' is UK English I think, I've heard Americans say 'rolling start' in other movies.

The part was all chewed up so it wouldn't work. they found the new part, but by the time they returned the van was done for.

But they'd have to connect it properly.

Hahaha wow! Don't tell me you'd give up when your vehicle doesn't start...give it a little push and it works just fine. I don't know about old batteries, they must have leaked or something...heck, radiation messes up those things.
