After watching this movie...

I want a robot, too!

What a charming and funny flick. The interaction between Frank Langella and the robot was great and I loved the retro design of the robots. It's also incredibly sad, although I loved the little "twist" at the end.

In these kinds of movies, I'm always on the side of the thief. The multimillionaire guy (Jake) was a jerk, and I'm glad his house got burgled. But the movie is just so damn sad; for an Alzheimer's patient, the ending can only be tragic. The fact that Susan Sarandon was his wife and he couldn't remember is heartbreaking. I like the little 'comeuppance' that Frank really does remember about the jewels and where they were hidden, and the fact that he has to sacrifice everything (his friendship with the robot and his whole life, basically) in order to do something good for his family (who already seemed well off, for the most part). It's the intention that matters though, and I thought it was a fitting end, however sad it may be.

I agree. I came in thinking it would be a poignant dramedy but it turned out to not only be a poignant film but also melancholic and very touching. For people who have relatives suffering from dementia or fear to end up with one, this is a film that really resonates with a lot of people. I couldn't help but root for the cynical excon grandpa as he was played marvelously by Langella. And like Frank, I can't help but see Robot as a person as well and feel the loss of the 'person' who had his memory wiped. In a sense Robot is a reflection of Frank and what Frank is going through. Very sad film indeed.
