Y'know, I've been thinking...

...I'd like to have one of these things in MY house. Cook and clean for me? Hold conversations with me?
Do I have to qualify to be demented in order to get mine?
Does Medicare cover them?
Will ObamaCare spring for one?

I'm half serious, here!

So you're looking for a wife.

reply

Right. Are there any out there, but male? I have friends who work and their husbands stay home, cook and clean.
One of those, please? If he comes in robot form, that's okay, I guess...
And I would like to choose the face this 'bot has. That would be good.

reply

sure, but I have to warn you that I have a robotic c*ck as well...

reply

So you're looking for a wife.

Wow, 21 century and people are still narrow-minded like that.

not to spoil the ending for you, but everything is going to be... ok!

reply

Narror minded? I have no idea what you're talking about and what you said could not be further from the truth. Try again.

According to Kurtzweil, you'll have a strong AI robot by 2029.

Though I'm not sure if the robot in this film is strong AI or just expert systems.

No he said he's looking for somebody to cook & clean willingly, with a smile on it's face and without moaning every two minutes

Who rattled your cage? It was a flippant throwaway remark in a thread that's not remotely serious... until you turn up with the attitude. Makes you feel adequate does it? The tedium!

I loved your reply.
This thread is so amusing ...

The kind of AI system shown in this film is still years away. We also do not have the necessary mechatronic system sensitive enough (while still being affordable) to perform the kind of tasks shown.

In fact, we don't even have text-to-speech simulations that come close to the kind of fluency in this film.

And yes, Kurtzweil predicted strong AI by 2029, but there's no saying if he's right. Also his prediction is on invention, not mass-marketing.

I mean, even DARPA, who is continuously throwing money at robotic projects, can barely create a robot that doesn't fall over when pushed (or knows how to navigate real life obstacles).

To me the robot looked very simillar to the Honda Asimo.

I'd like one to help me with my chores as well. I don't mind cooking for myself though.

I'd hate something like that around me! I even detest my computer being a touch-screen thing. I don't fondle screens! That's just creepy! And, it keeps shoving extra pages at me when I least expect it.

How I wish my other PC hadn't died!

I hate automation on the phone, so why would I want a walking-talking thing following me around, especially if it tells me to get up at a certain time and eat at this or that time, plus what to eat and do?! I won't even change over to a cellphone or any of those other little electronic gadgets people are so hooked on.

I love science fiction, but there are a lot of things that shouldn't ever be in real life. (Kindle is a major one!)(Kindle = kindling = "Fahrenheit 451")
