A fabulous little movie

I don't mean that in a disparaging way at all; 'little movies' are often the best. A great unpretentious, well crafted piece of story telling. It's great to stumble across films that have been mostly disregarded and discover a piece of magic.

Frank Langella is perfect. Pointless trying to over-analyse a film like this. More than just an 'entertaining' movie. There to be enjoyed and I did enjoy watching it.

When it came out at the cinema, reviewers seemed to talk about it as if it were quite an arty film. So, I think I was expecting something rather different to what I got when I recorded it the other night... It was rather slow to properly engage my interest, I never did warm to Frank particularly and Robot was never quite convincing enough for me to be able to put to one side the thought that it was a person in a suit. (Though, I'm sure the poor person stuck inside did their best...) More of an idea for a television project than the cinema, I think. But, I stuck with it and, in the end, didn't mind it.

Oh.

It is an underappreciated film. Certainly one of the better sci-fi movies of the last 10 years. I would dare to say only District 13, Interstellar, Mad Max, Moon, The Force Awakens, and The Martian are on one similar level or could be regarded as better IMHO in the last 10 years. Feel free to mention any others you feel are as good or better.

Frank Langella is perfect. And the movie is overall charming.
