Why Are They Messing Up The Show?

The show was fine the way it was, with Charlie Sheen playing an intelligent, professional character in a friends-with-benefits relationship with PRIMARILY one woman. It was also believable that he was a former professional baseball player. The footage of him breaking the bat on his knee was comical but he also looked legit. I also like his relationship with his daughter, how the show goes into detail about her OCD, and I like his ex-wife, who is rather low key instead of the typical bitchy, know-it-all ex-spouse. My only complaint is that they could expand more on the prison characters instead of mainly using them for comedy. But all in all, the show was good and a nice change for Sheen.

Now, Sheen looks intoxicated most of the time (sadly, I'm not sure if it's part of the character), and Sheen is trading in his slacks for shorts, looking more like Charlie Harper instead of Charlie Goodson. And where is Michael Boatman? He is a great actor and it was nice to see him play a completely different character from his role on Spin City and I like that Sheen is actually playing his straight man! It seems like Brian Austin Green is now Charlie's new BFF, which is disappointing. I don't mind Sean and Charlie being friends but I think the dynamic with Michael and Charlie was better. I wished that things worked out with Selma Blair (whose departure, I suppose, explains the show's turning point) because her chemistry with Sheen helped to make Sheen appear more like a regular guy. I don't think her replacement has as good of chemistry with Sheen.

The home therapy group hasn't change, which I like and I think it's keeping the show afloat. I also like that they are giving more screen time to Brett Butler, who I enjoyed seeing in the first episode. Hopefully, this show brings back the magic it had when Selma Blair was still on the show.

Yeah, his character basically morphed into Charlie Harper. I guess that is the kind of role Sheen is most comfortable with these days.
