Keri Russell

Wow- I just read she was 8 months pregnant when she finished filming this... I wonder how they hid the belly? The empire waist dresses do conceal quite a bit. I hope they did a good job of hiding it.

funny their was one shot with how the shirt draped and I thought to myself "The top makes her look pregnant" guess she was.

reply

I had the same thought. I honestly didn't notice she was pregnant until the airport scene.

reply

I think I noticed that same shot. I thought she had a real belly. Now I know why.

I probably would have stopped watching this film if it weren't for Russell. She's a delight.

reply

She was so obviously pregnant throughout the entire film that it was distracting for me. There was even one scene where you could see she was wearing pregnancy jeans while she was kissing Mr. Nobly.

reply

I thought in the director's commentary that they mentioned it was 6 months (the movie per wiki was filmed during the summer of 2011 and her daughter was born in December...) Really didn't notice it until the last scenes. She also wasn't wearing corsets either after the first scenes, but then again the other ladies probably weren't as well.

I'm watching it now and came onto the board to see if this was discussed. She's so clearly pregnant and it's completely distracting.

reply

Ah, that explains those last couple scenes when she's in jeans. I thought, wow, Keri Russell has a little pot belly! For the most part, I think they hid it pretty well.

reply

I came to this board only to see how far along she was in her pregnancy when she filmed this. It was ridiculous that her obvious pregnancy was not adressed in the movie.

They did a lousy job hiding it, if that was what they tried to.

reply

Why on earth would they have "addressed" her pregnancy? The character was not pregnant. It would have been a different movie if that were the case.

You can criticize them for not hiding it better. I do think they could have had some better clothing options or framing options.

But at the end of the day, I don't think it matters much. In the Harry Potter movies, Daniel Radcliffe doesn't have the right color hair or eyes but it doesn't ruin the movie. We just ignore that bit.

reply

Well, either they did a better job than you think, or I'm completely blind because I didn't notice at all she was preggo.

I bet if I go back and watch it again, however, it will jump out at me.

reply

You could totally tell she was pregnant- I noticed in several scenes when she was wearing modern clothes (not old costumes) that she looked big. I thought she was either pregnant or had gained a lot of stomach weight.
