Was the guy playing Martin supposed to be doing an English accent the entire movie (except in the airport)? Because it never sounded English to me, but I looked up a video of him, and he also was doing something different from his real accent, so was it just a terrible English accent? I thought maybe the character was supposed to have a New Zealand accent the whole time. So confused.
shareLol, I actually had that same thought when she was shocked he wasn't British at the end. When did he EVER sound British except maybe his first couple short sentences? He spoke with a very obviously not-English accent, but maybe she was untrained enough to think that it was just some sort of lower class English accent rather than New Zealand. I was actually surprised when I noticed him speaking with his native accent that they (the owners of Austenland) let him get away with not bothering to fake an English accent.

shareHe used to be on a tv series, and he spoke the same way in the movie as he did on the show. So, no, I don't think he was putting on an accent. He was just speaking with his normal NZ accent.
shareFlight of the Conchords! Great series. Yeah, Martin always spoke with a Kiwi accent. Didn't matter, he was "just a servant" and supposedly not part of the cast.
