The current episode of this show last week had a real hard-on about the bloody Sound of Music movie that came out around the time it is set, but they're really going fucking on and on about it, even taking off their wimples to see it in secret because nuns going to see a movie with nuns in it would be beyond hilarious! But the movie really wasn't that much of a big deal, even back then. I was born many years after, but what I guess is true!

shareMy family talked about this film for years. Apparently it was BFD when it came out. Remember cinema movies back then were much bigger events than now. People had few choices for entertainment: limited black and white tv, live shows which were mostly in cities, and big picture movies.

shareA movie or “moving pictures” were a big deal back the especially in poor neighborhoods. My mother was born in the 50s and I remember her and her mother talking about what a big deal it was when a movie was showing.
