Those blasts from the past...the hoola hoop!!!!

Did anybody else of a "certain age" laugh when Trixie was teaching her fitness class with the hoola hoop--which swept society back then in a popular fad?

I remember all the kids just had to have one. I think they were 99p or 99 cents, depending on your country, ha.

One thing that I recall clearly was how kids used to put them around their waists and just get right into it...the hoop used to go round and round without any tutorial or anything.

But give it to an adult? For some reason they had a terrible time with the physics of the hoola hoop. I don't think I ever saw an adult succeed with one, at least in my small world then.

Adults tried and tried and it would just fall to the ground.

I remember that SO well from school, that the teacher finally had to ban them at recess and move it to physical education hour to keep kids from going crazy at recess with them.

We neighborhood kids used to gather in our large (enough for a bunch of kids with h-h's) front garden with their hoops and spend hours with them, laughing and trying all kinds of tricks like using it on your arm (like Trixie did) or neck.

Gawd, does one feel old when watching retro shows.

It's often startling how often there's something in them that suddenly brings back a whole big "thing" you totally forgot about!

Like with the huge fad hoola hoops.

Sigh. LOL

I bought two hula hoops for my 2 granddaughters last month for 99cents each at (where else?) the 99 Cents Only store.

There you go!

Who says inflation has attacked quality of life!? :-)

Wonderful.

My gym offers circuits, boxercise, spin, kettlebells etc. I often wonder if there would be a market for a retro "keep-fit" class lol

Hooping has come back into style.

Go to YouTube and type in "hoop dancing," "hoopnotica," or "hoopalicious."

It's very popular among the young people now -- I have 6 adult hoops and became quite proficient with them, with practice. Trixie is right -- it's a great waist trimmer. ;)

A great waist trimmer, you say?
