Great sequel

This is what a Thor picture should be about, exploring Asgard and other realms with plenty of battles and humour. A little too much humour in this case but never mind, was great viewing and enjoyed every minute of it! 8/10

reply

Oh yes, I'm all into exploring Asgard.

reply

Hey look, it'd meow meow!

reply

I need to see this again at the cinema.

reply

I really enjoyed the two Iron Man efforts but his is Marvel's best sequel by far.

Listen to the true fans. They know what is what.

Even the Blu-ray bonus stuff lights my fire.

I dont mind the humor. It made the middle "earth hour" of the original bearable. What I dont get though is, if you're gonna load it with humor, why throw the death of Thor's mother in there? She should live! Only the villains should die!

Thats why the humor in Avengers and Iron Man 3 worked. None of the good guys died! To have someone's mother be killed is too heavy to follow with humor. You're talking about a traumatic event that some people never get over.

Actually, the SHIELD guy died in Avengers, but nobody important did :).

Most annoying moviegoer personalities-The Loud Laugher (LOLer), Foot Rester, Cellphone Light Guy

reply

I don't see why films can't be comic AND tragic. Saying that only bad guys should die, not good guys means the films would have much less emotional depth and dramatic tension. Also, Coulson's death is one of the main reasons the Avengers got pissed enough at Loki to put aside their differences and fight him in the climax, and is a good example of using both humor and tragedy.

reply

Frigga died a pure hero. She might have beat him had Kurse not been there

How is that not cool? Everything was epic in this film from death to battle. There was NOT too much humor.

reply

While I agree IRON MAN 3 had too much humor (it distracted from the emotional beats at times), THOR: TDW peppered it in just enough. Humorous exchanges between characters make us like and care about them - so when the tragic stuff happens, it cuts you that much deeper.

If we had a 2 hour dour weepfest, it's a lot harder to care about anything that happens. Take the Dark Knight Rises, for example.

"Let them pass that law and they'll have you in chains with a number burned into your forehead!"

IM3 did NOT have too much humor. In fact, it did it better than this film. I've seen Dark World twice at the cinema and my audience did not laugh half as much as they did in IM3. Dark World has better action but IM3 is probably the better written film.

reply

Yeah, ok - the humour was off in this film. It was overused and the comedic characters weren't all that funny - Loki easily out staged them all.
Still... you gotta admit the rest of it was amazing!

reply

Trying to inject humor at the wrong place is a valid criticism of this film. The humor does work well in spots but it was forced in a few places. That the only thing that keeps this from being a 10/10 masterpiece. Still, a 9/10 gem isn't exactly bad news.

Every piece of the Marvel universe, even the tiniest bit part, matters somehow.

indeed! awesome sequel, so so so much better than IM3, which is complete trash.

we all thought IM3 was gonna be awesome. Awesome villain, instead, it was a complete joke.

Thor went from a complete joke from the first movie to a really awesome sequel in the 2nd.

the captain America 3d trailer looked very promising too, I now have great hope for that movie as well.

reply

Well I liked IM3 a lot. I thought it was much better than the second.
I loved Thor 2. Thought they did a great job with it.

reply

IM3 was good but maybe this was better.

reply

This is as good as any sequel since Spider-Man 2.

That's the honest to God truth.

reply

This may very well be the best sequel the genre has produced. Certainly better than TDK which many are starting to define as the most overrated film made this century.

reply

Greatness is in the eye of the beholder. Good thing there are over a million of us who beheld it here!

Many if not most people.

Agreed.

WB is like a snail when it comes to adapting DC properties that aren't Batman or Superman.

reply

TDK at least was quality. Batman Begins and TDKR are more fizzle than sizzle.

How perfect is Chris Hemsworth as Thor?

reply

Other studios should be taking notes. This is how you do a sequel. Up the action without going cgi crazy.
