This movie should never have been created
Toy Story 3 ended the trilogy perfectly.
shareI disagree. I think this one was better than Toy Story 3.
shareI didn’t think Toy Story 3 was that great nor did I like the ending but I did understand it’s justification. The same cannot be said for Toy story 4.
The first two had a very clear and concise message and theme, the first was about how to deal with rejection and being on top of the world one day only to fall another. The second pondered the question: is it better to be loved forever but not living a full life or is it better to live a full life but risk not being loved one day. The third ones message was kind of jumbled up and didn’t make a whole lot of sense and this one was just all over the damn place, there was just too much going on. I mean we had the stuff with Bo Peep , the stuff with Bonnie, the stuff with Forky the stuff with Gabby, it was just kind of confusing. I think if the movie had mostly been about gabby wanting Woodys voice box then it could have gone somewhere interesting but in the end it was just a giant incoherent mess.
I loved Toy Story 3 and believed it was the perfect ending to the franchise. To this day, I consider Toy Story the perfect trilogy.
It really concerned me that Disney and Pixar were considering making a fourth movie and I hoped against hope they would just drop it, and given Pixar's previous track record of making good sequels and only to their movies that call for one (for the most part), it seemed likely to me. It did annoy me that there were media sources pushing for it and that movies like Muppets Most Wanted alluded to it in their opening number.
And then...they confirmed it was going to happen.
I did decide to give it a chance because the creators talked about how they couldn't shake this story idea from their heads and how they believed it was going to work. I waited until I actually saw the finished product before forming my opinion - I don't normally follow movies as they're being made because I want to be surprised, though there are a few exceptions.
I thought parts of it were okay, but when I finished watching, there was no need for it to be made. Forky was irritating, I didn't like what they did with Buzz or Bo Peep, none of the other toys got enough screen time, and I didn't like Woody's decision at the end. Given what he did at the end of Toy Story 3 because Bonnie needed him, that was a horrible thing to do to her. I was under the impression that she was simply in the mood to play with other toys for the time being and would come back to him again, but it wasn't until the end that I realized the movie was telling me she had lost interest in him completely. I didn't believe that. Not at all. And when Bonnie realizes that Woody's gone, she's going to be very upset and inconsolable.
(Edit: after viewing the movie again and thinking about all these ramifications and then some, Toy Story 4 sucked. They should have just left it alone at 3.)
