First comedy for Sean Penn

I'm really glad to see, at last, De Niro directed by Sean Penn. Incredible thing for Sean Penn I guess : directing the actor who has been his "master" and envy to become an actor himself.

I think Kristen Wiig will be great too, if you see her in the video including Ben Stiller, Matt Damon, Sean Penn, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Jack Black and Kevin Spacey. As a European, I would like to see Nathalie Boyer in, because she's funny and has that " special thing". Well anyway, I can't wait to see the movie.

De Niro proved us, once more, with our beloved Monica Bellucci that he's funny and that an actor can act as long as he works hard.
I don't know how Sean will use the fun in it, I hope there will be funny moments like in "The assassination of Richard Nixon", actually it's the first comedy he will direct. I'm sure he's funny in life and with his friend De Niro, there will be a real authenticity and intelligence. I just think it will be amazing on the screen.

I have a strong feeling this will be a drama/comedy.

Should be amazing...look forward to seeing it :)

Anyone think DeNiro could get an oscar nod for this role?

I think he could if this movie is more of a dramedy, and not just a comedy. I hope he does, but considering we don't know much about this movie, it's hard to tell.

AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO GIVES A S**T ABOUT THE RULES!!

He also was in "Crackers" and had a bit part in "Risky Business".

Sean Penn isn't directing anymore. It's Taylor Hackford, Helen Mirren's husband, who is directing De Niro and Jennifer Aniston. It's in pre-pro now ready to start filming in New York in January.

Bummer...

At the time the OP made his post, Sean Penn was on board as director. That's what he was referring to.

Penn certainly hasn't DIRECTED any comedies that I know of.

On a different note, I haven't seen Fast Times at Ridgemont High in far too long...

I just watched it the other day...Phoebe Cates nude scene will likely never be topped in a film again.
